The Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 (as amended) regulates afforestation, amongst other activities and a person planning to undertake an afforestation project should apply to the Department for an opinion on whether the project is likely to have a significant effect on the environment.
