Temporary Suspension to Seal Checks at Birkenhead Port
Seal Checks at Birkenhead Port are suspended and will take place on arrival in Northern Ireland on a temporary basis.
Due to storm damage sustained at the Port of Holyhead, and the subsequent increased freight volumes being experienced at the Port of Birkenhead, seal checks have been suspended at the Port of Birkenhead.
These checks will now be performed on arrival in Northern Ireland on a temporary basis. DAERA has informed industry bodies and will work with industry to support them through these temporary arrangements.
Seal checks refer to a process where DAERA staff check the seal on a lorry for goods moving from Great Britain to Northern Ireland. These typically take place in Great Britain ports prior to boarding the ferry.
This process has been moved to Northern Ireland on a temporary basis to ease traffic congestion at the Port of Birkenhead.
