DAERA Innovation Strategy 2020-2025

Consultation opened on 09 January 2020. Closing date 05 March 2020.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is seeking views on a draft Innovation Strategy 2020 – 2025, to establish an enabling external environment for innovation to flourish in businesses operating in the sectors for which DAERA has responsibility as well as supporting innovation across the Department.

Consultation description

DAERA has responsibility for farming, certain aspects of food, environment, fisheries, forestry and sustainability policy and regulation and the development of the rural sector in Northern Ireland.

As part of the DAERA Science Transformation Programme, a draft high level DAERA Science Strategy Framework has been established. The draft DAERA Innovation Strategy 2020 – 2025, derives from this Science Strategy Framework and implements it.

Innovation is the ‘successful generation and exploitation of new ideas. It is about transforming creative thinking into new products, new and improved processes and technologies to support new ways of doing business’. The draft Innovation Strategy identifies how DAERA proposes it will create an enabling environment within the Department to support innovation and also encourage and support the implementation of innovation actions by businesses operating in the sectors for which DAERA has responsibility.

The draft DAERA Innovation Strategy proposals have been informed by engagement with a number of key stakeholders, as well as other government departments, universities, academics and innovation facilitators.
