Each year the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs for Northern Ireland (DAERA) offers a limited number of Postgraduate Studentships for a three year period of research leading to a PhD qualification at a University in the United Kingdom (UK) or Republic of Ireland (ROI).

The DAERA Postgraduate Agricultural and Food Studentships competition is aimed at students wishing to undertake Doctoral programmes through research. The number of studentships awarded in any given year is determined by Departmental priorities and budget availability. The Department was able to fund twelve studentships in 2016.

The 2017 Competition for Studentship Applications is now open.  Funding is provided for full-time students only.

Closing date for the competition is 5pm Tuesday 28 February 2017
