UK F-gas/ODS certificates - limits on legal validity for work in the Republic of Ireland

Certificates for individuals and companies gained from a UK-based certification body are no longer valid for F-gas/ODS work in the Republic of Ireland, now that the UK has left the European Union.

Certificates for individuals

Individuals working in the Republic of Ireland ("RoI"), or anywhere in the EU 27, with F-gases or ODS in products/equipment, even if just partially, would now find that their UK-issued certificate is no longer recognised in the RoI or anywhere in the EU 27.

Individuals are now required to once more undergo training to acquire a certificate to legally carry out work with F-gases/ODS in the RoI and/or EU 27.

If this matter causes a concern for you or your business, please feel free to view the relevant page of the Irish Environmental Protection Agency's web-site.

Company certificates

As for company certificates issued in the UK, these are also no longer legally valid for work with F-gases/ODS in the RoI/EU 27.

Companies with certificates issued in the UK for work with F-gases/ODS need to apply for a company certificate from an Irish awarding body to continue to work legally in the RoI/EU 27.

Continued validity of EU 27 certificates for work in the UK

Certificates gained in the RoI (or any other EU Member State), for both companies and individuals, may continue to be used indefinitely for work with F-gases in Northern Ireland and indeed anywhere in the UK, even though the UK has now left the EU.
