The Northern Ireland Environment Agency has carried out a joint operation with the PSNI targeting illegal waste, it announced today.
On Saturday (October 28), the Environmental Crime Section (ECS) of NIEA conducted a joint operation with PSNI in the Middletown area of Co Armagh. It targeted waste offences being committed at an illegal scrapyard. Two pieces of machinery used in relation to the illegal activity where seized and further investigations are ongoing.
A spokesman for the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) said: “The operation underlines our commitment to work with partner agencies to protect the environment by disrupting illegal activity and detecting criminal offences”.
ECS utilise legislative powers to investigate environmental criminality under the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997.
