The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has a statutory responsibility for the conservation, protection, development and promotion of salmon and inland fisheries as set out in the Fisheries Act (NI) 1966. The commercial and recreational fishing sectors make an important contribution to the socio economic development of the local economy through employment, income, and exports as well as contributing to the health and well-being of people. DAERA aims to manage our natural fisheries resources in a sustainable way to add social and economic value. To do this we conserve, protect, develop and promote recreational and commercial fisheries, by developing evidenced based policy, working with partners, educating the public and delivering service excellence to our customers.
