Size and performance of the NI food and drinks processing sector

Date published: 09 December 2019

These publications provide estimates of the value of sales, value added, profitability, exports and employment for each of the ten subsectors of the food and drinks processing sector in Northern Ireland. These statistics are supplemented with fifteen performance indicators for each subsector. The statistics assist businesses with benchmarking, and provide context for Government when preparing strategies.

Revision Note: The contribution of food and drink processing sector employment to the manufacturing sector has been corrected affecting the key facts. The total number of firms has been corrected for 2016 and 2017. This affects the 2017 sample size in the introduction and all tables and charts relating to number of businesses by turnover bracket. This change in company numbers does not affect any other data variable (e.g. sales and employment). There was no requirement for the export sales of milk/milk products to be suppressed for 2017 and the figure has now been included in Table 8b.
