The Planning Response Team is the single point of contact for planning consultations and environmental queries related to planning, and provides a single, integrated response for each consultation across DAERA’s areas of responsibility shown below.

Marine & Fisheries Division

Development that may have an effect on the marine environment, including:

  • Development within an area between the mean low water mark to 500m inland of mean high water mark.
  • Onshore development that may affect the Marine Environment as a result of discharge of sediment or pollutants into the marine environment.

Natural Environment Division

Development of land that may affect natural heritage interests including landscape, such as:

  • Designated Sites.
  • Priority Habitat and Species.
  • Development within the World Heritage Site and its distinctive setting.
  • Major and Regionally Significant development within and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Water Management Unit

Development that may have an effect on the water environment, such as:

  • Surface water drainage.
  • Sewage disposal.
  • Development that may affect surface water bodies as a result of discharge of sediment or pollutants into the water.

Inland Fisheries

Development that may have an effect on the water environment important to fisheries, such as:

  • Development within 10m of any waterway that may affect rivers important to fisheries as a result of discharge of sediment or pollutants into the water.
  • In-river development such as hydroelectric power installations.
  • Temporary or permanent modification to watercourse channel including banks.

Regulation Unit

  • Development on land potentially affected by contamination.
  • Development that may affect groundwater quality, quantity or flow.
  • Development related to the disposal or processing of waste.

Drinking Water Inspectorate

Development that may have an effect on the water environment, such as:

  • Development that may affect an existing private drinking water supply including boreholes and wells.
  • Proposed new private drinking water supply.

Industrial Pollution & Radiochemical Inspectorate

Development that may have an effect on air quality, such as:

  • Development regulated under the Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2013.
  • Development that may suffer loss of amenity due to dust, noise, odour etc. due to the proximity to a neighbouring activity regulated under the Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2013.
