Farm suppliers are vital in the fight against Covid-19 – Poots

Date published: 10 April 2020

Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots MLA has praised the role of farm supply businesses in providing essential services to farmers and helping to put food on our tables.

Covid-19 March 2020

Minister Poots said: “Our farmers are of course a vital part of the food supply chain for us all, especially in this very challenging environment. But to enable farmers to continue to provide food for us all, they need a functioning and viable ancillary supply chain providing feed, equipment, supplies and services.

“This supply chain consists of ‘unseen’ heroes – small family-run businesses, self-employed individuals, rural shops and online supply stores in rural areas. Their continued support to the food and farming sector is vital as we battle against Covid-19.

“On behalf of us all, I’d like to thank our food heroes, from the feed supply stores for provision of animal feed, fertiliser and seeds, veterinary practitioners for attending to animals, farm contractors, farm machinery businesses for servicing and parts, and the mechanics for keeping farm vehicles operational.

“We are all in this fight together, so please remember when buying your groceries, or sitting down to eat your dinner, that it would not be possible without our ‘unseen heroes’ in the farm supply chain.”
