  • Last chance to get Wool Covid support claims in

    Date published: 10 August 2021

DAERA Minister Edwin Poots MLA has urged eligible sheep farmers to urgently apply for the Covid Support scheme he announced two weeks ago.

The wool scheme closes on 12 August at midnight and 3,000 of the 8,600 eligible sheep farmers still haven’t submitted their applications.

Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots said: “On 29 July, I announced an additional Covid support scheme for sheep farmers worth £1.2m for those farmers continuing to feel the effects of the downturn in world markets due to the pandemic.

“The wool scheme closes this Thursday 12 August at midnight – so I am calling on anyone eligible to apply immediately to ensure they get their payment. You can do so via a simple online form on the DAERA website.”

Information and help is available on the DAERA website or by calling 0300 200 7848. A member of DAERA staff is available on 0300 200 7848 to help with any queries you may have with the application.

    Notes to editors:

    1. Please note the last question on the State Aid page of the Wool application, is not asking if the business is actively farming – an Active Farmer. The question is asking if the farm business is also engaged in the processing of primary agricultural products?” e.g.  in activities that add value to primary agricultural produces by changing them in nature, e.g. butchering meat or pre-cooking.
    2. Follow DAERA on Twitter and Facebook
    3. All media queries should be directed to the DAERA Press Office
    4. The Executive Information Service operates an out of hours service for media enquiries only between 1800hrs and 0800hrs Monday to Friday and at weekends and public holidays. The duty press officer can be contacted on 028 9037 8110.
