The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is pleased to announce the opening of applications to the Level 2 Agricultural Business Operations course.
This part-time course, delivered in the evenings, offers a practical, entry level qualification designed for people who want to improve their knowledge of farming and farm business management.
Kenneth Johnston, CAFRE, Programme Manager said: “I urge anyone interested in applying for the Agricultural Business Operations course not to miss the opportunity to learn with us this September. Last year 95 individuals successfully completed the course. Training was delivered mostly online over 20 weeks from September 2025 to the end of February 2026, with on campus activities offered across the three college locations.”
A recent survey showed that 100% of learners felt they had gained knowledge from participating in the course and would recommend it to others. They also believed the course would benefit them when managing their farm business.
Timothy McCook, from Glenarm was one such learner commenting: “I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot. It suited me that it was held in the evenings as I work off farm during the day. I build and repair stone dykes alongside helping on a local farm. I found all aspects of the course interesting particularly the grassland management and animal production topics. I really enjoyed the visit to William McIlroy’s farm, seeing several new technologies which I aim to adopt when farming in the future.
“The Level 2 course enabled me to meet other likeminded farmers and has given me the impetus to establish my own farm which has been my long-time ambition. Having completed the beef option, I plan to complete the sheep production option to further my knowledge of the enterprise. I can thoroughly recommend the course to anyone interested in working in the agriculture sector.”
The course offers sector-based options which include dairying, crops, beef, and sheep. Training will be delivered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, however, choices will become more limited as classes fill up. Therefore, it is important that you apply early to ensure you get the training event which best suits your needs.
The cost of the course is £150.00. The classes will begin in September 2026 and be delivered over 20 weeks. Content will be delivered mainly online, with once a month on campus delivery at one of the three CAFRE Campuses, Enniskillen, Greenmount and Loughry.
If you are looking for a flexible, practical course that teaches you how to run a farm as a business, apply now to the Level 2 Agricultural Business Operations Certificate course with CAFRE.
