Construction licence for Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme (Ravenhill Quay)

    Reference: ML2023015
    Project Type: Construction
    Location: Coordinates: 54°35’.4N, 5°54’.4W
Project Description: The entire scheme will run along an 8km stretch from Belfast Harbour to Stranmillis Weir. The majority of the scheme will be located at the rear of the existing footpaths along the river front outside of the harbour area. However, there will be a 200m stretch of in river construction forming a stone revetment along the existing Ravenhill Quay Wall. The existing quay wall has visible structural impairments and works carried out will ensure there is no further collapse. The soft material will be excavated from the riverbed and disposed of to landfill. The revetment will be constructed by placing core material on the riverbed and gradually working up out of the water and then along with rock armour placed to provide protection to the core material. The flood wall will be constructed on mini piles once the revetment has been completed. There is an existing 400mm diameter PVC Northern Ireland Water pumped overflow which will be extended through the structure and fitted with a flap valve.
