This is the October 2015 report on the state of the water environment. In order to finalise the Second Cycle River Basin Management plans under the Water Framework Directive (WFD), these statistics have been updated using latest available data to the end of 2014.
Eutrophication is considered to be a key issue for water quality in Northern Ireland, particularly in relation to freshwaters. The Department of the Environment is committed to a cross-sectoral approach, taking action across all sectors contributing to the problem.
