Water Regulation

Questions and answers in relation to water regulation - updated 01/06/2020

What if I want to make a new application for a Domestic or an Industrial Consent?

During the current COVID-19 emergency our office is closed.  We are working hard to maintain a suitable level of service and progress new Domestic and Industrial applications for Consents to Discharge.  Please submit any applications as normal and we will endeavour to progress these as soon as possible.

Please be aware that applications for Consents may take up to 4 months to process.  We strongly advise that you make an application as soon as possible, if you have been advised to do so by us or your solicitor as part of any conveyancing or house sale process.

We will be issuing Consents in electronic format and these are valid legal documents.  In some cases our determination may need a site visit.  If this is the case and we are not able to complete the visit, we may be able to issue a Consent based on the information we hold and that provided in the application form.  We reserve the right to review any such Consents at a later date, should this information prove to be inaccurate.

In the case of an urgent pollution event please call the Pollution Hotline 0800 80 70 60.

What is happening with existing applications NIEA already has in the system?

During the current COVID-19 emergency our office is closed. We are working hard to continue to deliver our full range of services, but we have limited access to the databases that contain the information about existing Consents. Therefore it may take us longer than usual to respond to queries regarding applications already in the system. All applications we have received and acknowledged are currently being progressed, with our teams working remotely.

Where do I go if I have a query on an application, or if I need advice?

Unfortunately due to the COVID – 19 mitigation measures we have limited access to the databases and files that contain the information that may be required to assist us answering any queries you may have or advice that you require.

You may be able to access the information regarding an existing Domestic Consent on the public register available at https://appsd.daera-ni.gov.uk/dcpublicregister

The best way to use the public register is to use broad search terms, for example just search for the street name and then filter the results.

If however you still require some advice please contact us on: waterregulationcorrespondence@daera-ni.gov.uk and we will do our best to provide advice.

In the case of an urgent pollution event please call the Pollution Hotline 0800 80 70 60.
