  • Export of Canine Germinal Product (Semen)

    Information relating to the export of canine germinal product (semen) from Northern Ireland.

    Movement of canine germinal product (semen) from registered establishments to GB and export to EU does not require export certification or pre-notification of the movement.

    The consignment of canine semen must by accompanied by a commercial document indicating the origin and destination of the consignment, the nature (content) of the consignment, the date of movement and the names of the exporter and consignee.

    Operators of establishments collecting canine semen must register with DAERA before they commence activities.  Please contact Applications.AIABP@daera-ni.gov.uk to request a registration form and guidance on the registration process.

    Requirements for export of canine semen to third countries is considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the requirements of the importing country.  Please check Defra FormFinder for an available certificate in the first instance, or if not available, email DAERA Trade Exports for further information.

    Germinal products from dogs residing in a confined establishment (e.g. zoos, safari parks etc.) require veterinary export certification.  Please contact DAERA Trade Exports for further information.
