    • Grass farming

The GrassCheck project continues to be supported by funding from AgriSearch, and is run jointly by staff from AFBI and CAFRE. The project will continue to provide weekly updates of grass growth and quality throughout the grazing season, and also provide weekly grass growth predictions.

    Project outline

A key element of ensuring that the grazing herd is provided with the correct quality and quantity of grass throughout the grazing season is an awareness of grass growth. The GrassCheck project will be reporting actual grass growth and grass quality measured at Hillsborough and Greenmount, with a single grass growth prediction provided based on these sites.

The information collected from individual commercial farms will not feature this year, but the bulletins will continue to feature management notes, providing targeted and timely guidelines on strategies to improve grassland utilisation as the unique challenges of the 2016 grazing season arise over the coming months.

    GrassCheck bulletins

As a new grass growing season begins, decide to make full use of the weekly growth bulletins to assist with grazing management decisions on your farm. In addition to the weekly press bulletins the information is updated weekly on the internet at the links below:-
