Inland Fisheries staff welcome visitors at the Bushmills Salmon & Whiskey Festival

Inland Fisheries staff were once again delighted to welcome members of the public to the River Bush Salmon Station Open Days in conjunction with Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council and in support of the Bushmills Salmon & Whiskey Festival. The event took place on the 15th & 16th October 2022.

Visitors were given a guided tour of the Salmon Station and introduced to the conservation and protection efforts developed by DAERA and the Agri-Food Biosciences Institute to monitor and address declining Atlantic salmon numbers across the range of this iconic species. The guided tours proved as popular as ever, with many people exclaiming just how interesting and informative it was upon their exit.

The Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle

The Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle returned on the 25th and 26th June 2022, after an absence of two years due to the Covid pandemic and Inland Fisheries were delighted to back and promoting angling.

Fair Director Albert Titterington said “The Irish Game Fair is the only major country sports event in Ireland this year and was a long-awaited countryside extravaganza for thousands of enthusiasts and their families".

There was a special ‘put and take’ fishery for kids, a bug life experience and a big game angling simulator.

There were also displays by the main Irish country sports organisations exhibiting either in their own pavilions or in the ‘Salmon & Woodcock Pavilion,’ supported by Inland Fisheries. This included the Federation of Salmon & Sea Trout Anglers; Ulster Angling Federation; No Salmon Nets Ireland; Association Professional Game Anglers Ireland, CIC trophy measurement, Irish Working Terrier Federation, plus a number of clubs and conservation bodies.

North West Angling Fair

In April 2022, Inland Fisheries attended the North West Angling Fair at the Melvin Sports Complex in Strabane at the beginning of April to promote fishing in DAERA's Public Angling Estate and to engage with stakeholders.

Celebration of Sport 2022

Inland Fisheries, attended the Celebration of Sport event held at Omagh Leisure Centre on Friday April 8th 2022. 

The show was very well attended by local primary school children and they were treated to a vast array of sporting activities. Inland Fisheries staff, along with supporting coaches, demonstrated various angling techniques such as casting, fly tying and reeling in a catch using the simulator. The display tank was a particular draw for the children!
