Summary

The Draft Demersal FMP outlines a series of objectives and actions designed to maintain or restore key stocks such as Nephrops, sole, cod, haddock, whiting and plaice to sustainable levels. Consultation description

The FMP is a commitment under the UK Joint Fisheries Statement and has been developed jointly by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and the Welsh Government. Its development has been informed by close engagement with the fishing industry, environmental organisations, scientific bodies and other stakeholders.

Opening the consultation, Minister Muir said:

“The Irish Sea fisheries are of significant economic, social and environmental importance. These Fisheries Management Plans represent an important step in ensuring that both demersal and pelagic stocks are managed sustainably, balancing the protection of the marine environment with the needs of fishing communities and businesses that rely on them.”

“These draft plans are part of a wider programme of Fisheries Management Plans that my Department is responsible for delivering. I would like to thank industry representatives, scientists and stakeholders who have contributed to their development through the working groups and engagement process to date.”

“I encourage all interested parties to respond to this consultation to help inform the final plans and support the sustainable future of our fisheries.”

The public consultation on this draft FMP will be open until 21 October 2026.

The Department is also planning a stakeholder webinar during the consultation period, with further details to follow.

Ymgynghoriad yn agor ar Gynllun Rheoli Pysgodfeydd Dyfnforol ar gyfer Môr Iwerddon

Mae’r FMP yn ymrwymiad o dan Gyd-ddatganiad Pysgodfeydd y Deyrnas Unedig ac fe’u datblygwyd ar y cyd gan yr Adran Amaethyddiaeth, yr Amgylchedd a Materion Gwledig (DAERA), Adran yr Amgylchedd, Bwyd a Materion Gwledig (Defra), a Llywodraeth Cymru. Llywiwyd y broses o’i ddatblygu gan ymgysylltu’n agos â’r diwydiant pysgota, sefydliadau amgylcheddol, cyrff gwyddonol a rhanddeiliaid eraill.

Wrth agor yr ymgynghoriad, dywedodd y Gweinidog Muir:

“Mae pysgodfeydd Môr Iwerddon yn bwysig iawn yn economaidd, yn gymdeithasol ac yn amgylcheddol. Mae’r Cynlluniau Rheoli Pysgodfeydd hyn yn gam pwysig tuag at sicrhau bod stociau dyfnforol a phelagig yn cael eu rheoli’n gynaliadwy, gan gydbwyso diogelu’r amgylchedd morol ag anghenion cymunedau pysgota a’r busnesau sy’n dibynnu arnynt.”

“Mae’r cynlluniau drafft hyn yn rhan o raglen ehangach o Gynlluniau Rheoli Pysgodfeydd y mae fy Adran yn gyfrifol am eu cyflawni. Hoffwn ddiolch i gynrychiolwyr y diwydiant, y gwyddonwyr a’r rhanddeiliaid sydd wedi cyfrannu at eu datblygu trwy’r gweithgorau a’r broses ymgysylltu hyd yma.”

“Anogaf yr holl bartïon â buddiant i ymateb i’r ymgynghoriad hwn er mwyn helpu i lywio’r cynlluniau terfynol a chefnogi dyfodol cynaliadwy ein pysgodfeydd.”

Bydd yr ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus ar yr FMPau drafft hyn ar agor am 12 wythnos tan 21 Hydref 2026.

Mae’r Adran hefyd yn cynllunio gweminar ar gyfer rhanddeiliaid yn ystod y cyfnod ymgynghori, a bydd rhagor o fanylion yn dilyn.
