Consultation on Future Agricultural Policy Proposals for Northern Ireland

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is delighted to present this Consultation on the Future Agricultural Policy Proposals for Northern Ireland and looks forward to hearing your views.

The Consultation sets out the high level policy proposals of the workstreams that are being developed to achieve the four key outcomes of the Future Agricultural Policy Framework Portfolio published by the Department on 24 August 2021.

For each workstream consideration of the main issues, policy proposals and design principles is provided and views sought through a series of questions. Responses will help shape future support measures and pave the way to a tailored agricultural policy that best meets the needs of Northern Ireland.

The vision for a future agricultural regime that promotes productive, efficient practices through greater innovation and capacity, whilst protecting the environment, animal health and welfare and public health, will take a collaborative effort with industry and stakeholders in the co-development and design of new measures and interventions. This will facilitate transition from the existing CAP Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 construct to new approaches and support systems which better address the needs of Northern Ireland agriculture, the environment and rural communities.

This public consultation is open for a period of 8 weeks until 23:59, 15 February 2022. We encourage you to respond as early as possible. We welcome views from all sectors, age-groups, organisations and individuals. Consultation responses will be used to inform the development of agricultural policy to develop a future sustainable agricultural industry.
