Summary

Forest Service, an Agency of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has carried out an initial assessment of this proposal under the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 (as amended).

It is planned that this Departmental project be completed by the end of February 2021. The Department does not intend to prepare an environmental statement.

This project is required to comply with the UK Forestry Standard, which describes the government's approach to sustainable forestry.

Project description               Conversion of conifer woodland to blanket bog immediately next to the reservoir in Lough Bradan Forest. Localised patches of heather occurs within this area and existing deep drains will be blocked to raise the water-table to restore this area to blanket bog.
