  • Bursary Programme launched for CAFRE Food students at Loughry Campus

    The 2020-21 Higher Education Food Bursary Programme was recently launched at CAFRE, Loughry Campus. A total of seventeen thousand pounds is available to students as bursaries kindly provided by 17 companies within Northern Ireland’s Agri-Food industry. Industry involvement in the programme clearly demonstrates their continued support for CAFRE students, even in these challenging times.

    Speaking about the bursary programme Mr Martin McKendry, CAFRE Director said: “CAFRE is deeply indebted to all bursary providers for their support. I applaud this generosity from industry and their willingness to support young people entering higher education at Loughry.”

    As ever, competition is strong for the seventeen bursaries which are worth at least £1,000 each. All full-time BSc and FdSc Food students can apply by submitting either reports, on a title provided by the bursary provider, company application forms or short presentations, whilst others are linked to highest marks in modules. Many of the sponsors also interview students as part of the selection process, as a number of the bursaries offer much sought after paid work placement opportunities.

    This year’s bursaries have been generously provided by ABP Food Group, Bank of Ireland, Dale Farm, Danske Bank, Dunbia, Fane Valley/Linden Foods, Glanbia Cheese Ltd, Henderson Foodservice Ltd, Irish Farmers’ Journal, Kerry Omagh, Kerry Portadown, Lakeland Dairies, Mash Direct, Northern Ireland Food & Drink Association (NIFDA), Tyrone Farming Society, Ulster Bank and Westrock MPS.
