  • CAFRE Equine Apprentice can ‘earn and learn’ by taking British Horse Society Exams

    Date published: 3 September 2020

CAFRE is offering young people an opportunity to ‘earn as you learn’ through the ApprenticeshipsNI programme.

Equine apprentices will be able ‘earn and learn’ if they sign up for CAFRE’s Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Jenny Richardson, a lecturer on the programme said: “The Level 2 Apprenticeship in the Equine Industry programme is an excellent way to gain British Horse Society qualifications, while continuing to earn and develop practical skills in the workplace.”

The Equine Apprenticeship students have embraced the change in teaching methods which were required due to Covid-19 restrictions. Equine Apprentices usually travel to college periodically for block training but in March teaching moved to remote learning through Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The class embraced working online and have gained valuable skills, knowledge and experience in the process.

So, Tuesday, April 4, 2020 was a very memorable day for the Apprentices who successfully completed the stable management section of the British Horse Society Stage 2 Care Exam. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the examinations were run individually. The students are now preparing for the British Horse Society Stage 2 Ride and Lungeing examinations.

If you are aged between 16-24 years-old and are interested in gaining a qualification through the ApprenticeshipsNI scheme please contact Jenny Richardson at CAFRE Enniskillen Campus on 02866344853, or alternatively email jenny.richardson@daera-ni.gov.uk. A number of equine employers are keen to get involved.
