The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) will host an industry event focused on the future of tree production and planting in Northern Ireland on Thursday 15 October 2026 at Greenmount Campus, Antrim.
The event, titled ‘A Growers' Gathering for Tree Production and Planting’, will bring together growers, foresters, researchers, policymakers, educators, contractors, environmental organisations and other stakeholders with an interest in future woodland creation and management as well as young tree production.
With increasing demand for high-quality trees to support woodland expansion, biodiversity enhancement and climate action initiatives, the event will provide an important opportunity for participants to share knowledge, discuss emerging opportunities and strengthen collaboration across the sector.
The programme will feature presentations from CAFRE, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) Forest Service, Environmental organisations and the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI), alongside practical demonstrations and networking opportunities.
A key focus of the event will be the trends and opportunities to produce high-quality tree seedlings and the sustainable management of woodlands.
Attendees will hear about the DAERA Tree Planting Action Plan for woodland creation as well as future trends and opportunities on tree planting along with innovations in accelerated tree seedling production. Demonstration plots within the Horticulture Centre will showcase practical approaches and technologies that can support successful tree seedlings production for sustainable woodland creation and management.
