CAFRE’s Rider Performance Hub - Driving innovation in rider training and development

The specialist facility combines cutting-edge simulator technology, sport science principles and expert coaching to provide riders with a unique environment in which to develop skills, improve performance and build confidence.

Designed to support riders of all abilities, from beginners through to experienced competitors and industry professionals, the Rider Performance Hub offers evidence-based training opportunities in a safe and controlled learning environment. 

At the centre of the facility are two Racewood Dressage Pro Simulators, a Racewood Eventer Simulator and a Racewood Mark 10 Racing Simulator, enabling riders to experience riding scenarios while receiving immediate feedback on their performance.

The simulators allow riders to focus on key performance areas including balance, posture, position, coordination, effective use of aids and riding accuracy. Through detailed coaching and analysis, riders can identify strengths, address weaknesses and develop greater awareness of how their movement influences communication with the horse. The ability to repeat exercises consistently provides invaluable opportunities for skill development and confidence building.

Supporting the simulator technology there is rider conditioning equipment to develop the physical attributes required for effective riding. Balance, mobility, core strength, coordination and postural control can all be enhanced through targeted off-horse training programmes, helping riders improve performance while promoting long-term resilience.

The Rider Performance Hub plays an integral role within CAFRE’s equine provision and is used across full-time Higher and Further Education equine programmes. Students benefit from practical experience that links rider development and coaching principles ensuring they gain industry relevant skills and knowledge for future careers within the equine sector.

In addition to supporting full-time students, the facility has become a valuable resource for the wider equine industry through a growing programme of short courses, workshops and professional development opportunities. CAFRE has delivered a range of rider focused training events, including rider biomechanics workshops, simulator-based rider position analysis sessions, coach education programmes and continuing professional development opportunities for equestrian professionals.

The Hub supports specialist training initiatives, including rider fitness and conditioning workshops, confidence-building sessions for novice riders and practical clinics focused on improving dressage, jumping and general riding effectiveness. These programmes provide participants with access to technology and expertise, helping to improve both rider performance and horse welfare.

As interest in evidence-based rider training continues to grow, CAFRE is expanding opportunities for riders, coaches and industry professionals to engage with the Rider Performance Hub through new courses and development programmes.
