DAERA appoints new board member - February 2026

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has appointed Dr Scott King as a non-executive board member to the Departmental Board.
Non-executive board members (NEBMs) bring external perspectives and experiences and provide invaluable support and constructive challenge to executive members in their role to ensure that the Board’s business is discharged effectively.
Dr King’s appointment is for a period of three years effective from 1 March 2026.

- Each NI department is required to have an effective departmental board which provides leadership for the department’s business, helping it to operate effectively. The board supports senior officials in directing the business of the department in as effective and efficient way as possible and plays a particularly important role in supporting the Principal Accounting Officer in discharging her obligations as set out in Managing Public Money Northern Ireland.
- Dr King biography:
Dr Scott King is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Director with more than 20 years’ experience working across public, private, and academic sectors. He has a strong track record in regional development, has led major innovation partnerships, successfully founded a range of businesses, and supported many organisations through growth of organisations, funding, and transformation. Scott is known for his collaborative approach, working across sectors to deliver strategic outcomes with lasting impact. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Directors and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and currently holds a number of private and public sector board and advisory roles focused on governance, economic development, and return of investment. Scott is a Department for Education School Governor at Lagan College Belfast, a member of the Utility Regulators Independent Expert Advisory Panel, and a Harbour Commissioner at Foyle Port. - NEBMs are paid a daily rate of £604.86 (under review). The time commitment will be approximately 2.5 days per month.
