  • DAERA encourages engagement in UK Egg consultation launch

    Date published: 31 October 2023

DAERA has welcomed today’s launch of Defra’s UK-wide consultation on contractual relationships in the UK egg industry.

The consultation invites contributions from across the UK, and DAERA encourages stakeholders to have their say and to highlight any specific issues or concerns for the local egg sector.

The consultation will gather evidence about how supply chain arrangements in the sector currently function and the nature of the relationships between the various parties. It will also seek views on whether the functioning of the supply chain can be improved.

DAERA will work closely with officials in Defra, Scotland and Wales to consider the responses received and seek to ensure that the UK government’s proposed solutions to any issues identified take account of the views of local stakeholders and those of incoming Northern Ireland Ministers.

Details of how to respond are included in the consultation document: Contractual relationships in the UK egg industry - Defra - Citizen Space

    Notes to editors:

    1. The consultation is available at: Contractual relationships in the UK egg industry - Defra - Citizen Space.
    2. Responses must be submitted by 22 December 2023
    3. Defra has powers under section 29 of the Agriculture Act 2020 to regulate contractual relationships in agricultural sectoral supply chains. This is the third UK-wide consultation on sectoral supply chain relationships. Consultations on the dairy and pig sectors were held in 2020 and 2022.
