Degree success at CAFRE’s Enniskillen Campus

BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management graduates, from the classes of 2020 and 2021 recently celebrated graduation success at The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE).

2020 BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management, First Class graduate Naiosa Faux, Newtownbutler was awarded The Vaughan Trust Award, DAERA prize, The Tullyraine House Cup and The Irish Draught Horse Society Cup at Enniskillen Campus’ Graduation event.

Head of Equine at Enniskillen Campus, Seamus McAlinney welcomed CAFRE’s Head of Education Dr Eric Long; Professor David Hassan Associate Dean for Global Engagement, Faculty of Life and Health Sciences at Ulster University and CAFRE’s Jane Elliott, Equine Higher Education Programme Manager to lead in the ceremony.

Seamus McAlinney acknowledged that the event was very different to traditional CAFRE Graduations. This small scale celebration took place with Covid protocols in place.

In his address to the students Dr Eric Long said that: “Graduation is always the highlight of the College’s academic calendar as it comes at the end of a number of years of hard work and commitment. It was hugely disappointing for everyone that we were not able to hold graduation ceremonies in 2020 or the summer of 2021.”

Dr Long continued saying that: “Today’s ceremony is even more special as it allows us the opportunity to celebrate your achievements in person and in the presence of your friends and family. Despite the challenges of remote learning and online assessments, you have reached a significant milestone along the path of knowledge and learning and you should be very proud of your achievements.”

The 2020 and 2021 BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management graduates are now members of the CAFRE Alumni. Seamus McAlinney, Head of Campus was delighted to report that: “90% of the Equine Alumni are either employed directly in the equine industry or are working with horses while they earn their living in another job. In addition 15% of CAFRE Equine Alumni work outside the UK and Ireland.”
