Now is the time to consider a career in Horticulture or Floristry at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE).
Explore the wide range of study pathways available at Greenmount Campus, Antrim suitable for those leaving school or considering a change of career direction. Applications are still open for the Ulster University validated Foundation Degree in Horticulture through UCAS Clearing. If you are considering courses suited after GCSE study, apply to the college directly for a Level 2 or Level 3 course in Floristry or Horticulture starting this September.
Valued at approximately £170 million and employing around 8,000 people, the Northern Ireland horticulture industry is thriving. CAFRE has been delivering horticulture-focused studies at Greenmount Campus for over 100 years. Students benefit from practical, industry-focused learning with access to specialist horticulture and floristry facilities, supported by industry-experienced teaching staff and strong links with leading horticulture and floristry employers.
With a growing need for skilled and qualified professionals to drive innovation and promote sustainability, CAFRE currently has availability through UCAS Clearing on its full-time and part-time Ulster University Foundation Degree in Horticulture. This course offers a progression route onto the BSc (Hons) Degree in Horticulture with one year of additional study at Greenmount Campus.
There are also opportunities for those leaving school after Year 12. Students can apply directly to CAFRE for full-time Level 2 Floristry and Level 2 and Level 3 Horticulture courses. These courses offer students the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills for a wide range of careers while also preparing them for progression to higher education.
‘Earn while you learn’ with a Level 2 or Level 3 Apprenticeship, an ideal option for those interested in securing employment coupled with work-based training. With pathways in Floristry, Landscape Maintenance, Parks, Gardens and Green Spaces, Sports Turf and Greenkeeping, Apprenticeships allow learners to gain recognised qualifications while developing practical skills in a work environment.
