Laurel Cahoon, a final year Foundation Degree in Equine Management student was the successful recipient of the Irish Farmers Journal Bursary awarded at CAFRE Enniskillen Campus.
Final year Foundation Degree students were required to undertake a period of work placement within the equine industry and produce a presentation and report on their experiences and career aspirations. Laurel undertook her placement in the eventing sector of the industry.
Laurel who comes from Bangor Co Down has been involved with horses since she was fourteen. She regularly participated in Pony Club events and has helped out on a number of yards. Whilst completing the Level 3 Extend Diploma in Horse Management before the Foundation Degree, she was one of only twelve students selected for an equine study tour in Holland where she gained first-hand experience of the Dutch equine industry.
Laurel is extremely grateful to the Irish Farmers Journal for the opportunity to win the bursary and intends to use it to further her studies as she is planning to progress onto the Honours Degree programme in Equine Management.
CAFRE would also like to publicly thank the Irish Farmers Journal for affording final year Higher Education students the opportunity to obtain a bursary to assist them with their studies.
