  • National Diploma students have a cracking good time

    Date published: 18 December 2017

An integral part of the National Diploma courses at the Loughry Campus of the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is visiting food manufacturers to see the practical skills and theory in action.

Careful hands are needed during the recent tour of Skea Eggs!

Recently the students had the opportunity to visit the processing plant of one of Northern Ireland’s leading egg producers – Skea Eggs in Donaghmore, Co. Tyrone.

Operation manager, Kenny Greer along with agriculture director, Harold Richmond and Quality Officer Katherine Willis took time out of their busy schedules to have a discussion with the students about the history of Skea eggs, processing of eggs from farm to fork and the future of the egg market. This was followed by an extensive tour of the factory.

The students had a smashing time learning how the theory that they have learnt in the classroom is used with a fast moving production process.
