Study food at CAFRE: Applications still open for September 2026

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is encouraging school leavers with an interest in food to explore the wide range of study pathways available at Loughry Campus, Cookstown.
With applications still open through UCAS Clearing for degree programmes and direct applications available for study after GCSEs as an alternative to A-Levels, there is still time to secure a place for September.
CAFRE's Loughry Campus combines academic excellence with practical, industry-focused learning. Students benefit from access to modern food processing facilities, specialist laboratories and industry-experienced teaching staff, alongside strong links with leading food businesses.
Northern Ireland's food and drink industry generates approximately £7.3billion in economic value, supports almost 109,000 jobs, and accounts for over one-third of all manufacturing sales in Northern Ireland.
With a growing need for skilled and qualified professionals to drive innovation and promote sustainability within the industry, CAFRE currently has availability through UCAS Clearing on its full-time food degree offerings including BSc (Hons) Degree in Food Innovation Management (with pathways in Technology and Nutrition), the newly validated BSc (Hons) Degree in Sustainable Agri-Food Management and its Foundation Degree in Food Innovation and Technology.
For those who prefer a work-based route, CAFRE's Higher Level Apprenticeships in Food and Drink Manufacture offer the opportunity for Apprentices to gain recognised qualifications while building their earning potential and developing practical skills in a real working environment.
There are also opportunities for GCSE school leavers. Students can apply directly to CAFRE for full-time Level 3 in Food Technology with pathways in Nutrition and Science. These courses are designed to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the links between food science, robotics and automation, technology, nutrition and health while preparing students for employment or progression to higher education.
