McKean's Moss Part 2 consists of a small area of cutover bog adjacent to McKean's Moss ASSI in County Tyrone.
The raised bog system represents the most extreme north-western example of a lowland raised bog in Northern Ireland. The cutover bog within this site is now dominated by downy birch.
The ground flora is dominated by Sphagnum mosses and dense stands of purple moor-grass. These old hand cuttings provide additional habitat diversity to McKean's Moss ASSI and are integral to the hydrological integrity of the bog.
