Sandy Braes ASSI provides excellent access to a range of important earth science features.
The rocks here date from the Palaeogene, some 60 million years ago and they probably formed between the main eruptions of the Antrim lavas. At this time, the north Atlantic Ocean had begun to open and the volcanic rocks are directly associated with this event.
