County:

Council: Fermanagh and Omagh
Guidance and literature: Stranacally ASSI

Stranacally has been declared as an ASSI because of its species-rich wet grassland. Species-rich grassland tends to occur only where traditional farming practices have been maintained and is now a rare habitat in Northern Ireland.

Stranacally ASSI is situated within a landscape of rolling drumlin hills that sweep down from Ballintempo and Big Dog forests towards the town of Garrison and Lough Melvin.  Stranacally is on the edge of the uplands with an altitude of approximately 140m above sea level and consists of a small drumlin hill that is flanked on either side by tributaries of the Roogagh River.  Variations in soils and topography have resulted in subtle differences in grassland type, with species denoting these conditions occurring.
