Applying for a felling licence
Date published:
Last updated:
A felling licence is normally required for felling trees within a woodland of 0.2 hectares (half an acre) or greater. Penalties will apply if you fell trees without a licence and an exemption does not apply.
To obtain a licence, a completed felling licence application form should be submitted to Forest Service using the appropriate link below. A map showing clearly the boundaries of the proposed felling must also be included.
Forest Service will issue a felling licence within 3 months of receiving a completed application. We will fast-track your application if it involves small scale felling where there are clearly no impacts on important habitats, species or historic sites.
We will automatically issue you with a Due Diligence for UK Grown Timber form with your approved felling licence. If required, the completed form will provide assurance that timber felled under a felling licence has come from a legal and sustainable source.
