Between 1986 and 1991 Environment and Heritage Service DOE (NI) commissioned the University of Ulster to carry out a series of surveys of the ecology and landscape of the Northern Ireland countryside.
The Northern Ireland Countryside Survey (NICS2000) provides an estimate of land cover in the landscape and what changes have occurred since the baseline NICS. The primary land cover types and field boundary types have been aggregated in Broad Habitats.
