Construction of a temporary pontoon for Skiffie Festival Competition Course
Newry Mourne and Down District Council wish to deploy a temporary modular, floating, pontoon system off Delamont Country Park in the Quoile Estuary to facilitate access on to Strangford Lough for Skiffiefest 2025. Following on from the Skiffie Worlds held at the same location in July 2016, July 2017, July 2018, June 2019, July 2022, August 2023 & August 2024 (No events were held during 2020 & 2021 due to Covid 19)
The temporary pontoon will comprise of Aqua dock blocks held in place by delta anchors. The pontoon is intended to provide access for skiffie’s, event safety craft and other small non-motorized craft.
The annual course for the Skiffie festival (31/05/2025 & 01/06/2025) is 1km long with a start / finish line marked by buoys and a line of turning marks to allow for 2km races. This site is the only one that is identified in the Lough with suitable conditions for skiffie competitions. The same course is used annually with the event usually happening in June, July or August.
