The proposed works comprise repairs and upgrading of existing sea defences (Sections
19C & 19D) along the Translink Coleraine–Derry railway line, involving installation of new
rock armour protection to stabilise an embankment subject to erosion. The activities
include vegetation clearance, regrading of the embankment slope, placement of geotextile,
and construction of rip-rap (rock armour) revetment to protect the railway from tidal and
    river erosion.

Project Description: The marine works comprise the repairs and construction of enhanced rip-rap sea defence revetments below Mean High Water Springs (MHWS) along the seaward face of the
railway embankment on the River Foyle, between Foyle Bridge and the Foyle Greenway,
forming part of the coastal railway corridor between Coleraine and Derry/Londonderry. The
    works include:
    • Removal of displaced and failed armour stone below MHWS
    • Re-profiling and preparation of the embankment toe and lower slope
    • Installation of geotextile filter layers below MHWS
    • Placement of double-layer interlocking rock armour (approx. 60–300 kg with larger
    toe stones) below MHWS
    • Tie-ins with existing revetments at each end
    • Use of plant operating from the foreshore and embankment, with tidal working and
temporary environmental controls (floating booms, clamshell excavation where
    required)
