The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations 2024 (the Packaging Regulations) became law on 1 January 2025. The Regulations impose various obligations on producers, compliance schemes and holding companies in Northern Ireland. This includes an obligation on producers to collect various data on the packaging they supply to others, and on producers, compliance schemes and holding companies to report some of that data to NIEA.
This temporary Regulatory Position Statement informs obligated producers that NIEA will not take enforcement action against them should they fail to submit nation of sale data and self-managed organisational waste data only for a limited period.
