Alien species or, as they are sometimes known, non-native species are animals and plants that have been introduced, either intentionally or unintentionally, outside their natural range. Many of these alien species live in harmony with our native species causing no adverse impacts. A few alien species become what is known as ‘invasive’ as they thrive in our habitats and out-compete our native plants and animals.
