  • Public Sector Climate Showcase and First Reporting Cycle Celebration Event

    Topics:
    • Climate Change

    Date published: 16 June 2026

DAERA marked the successful completion of the first mitigation and adaptation reporting cycles under The Climate Change (Reporting Bodies) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024 with a celebration event for public bodies on Thursday, 11th June 2026, at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

The first mitigation reporting cycle concluded in October 2025, followed by the completion of the first adaptation reporting cycle in March 2026. These milestones represent an important step in strengthening and embedding climate action and resilience across Northern Ireland’s public services.

The event provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the progress made by public bodies to date, as well as to share learning and best practice. Attendees heard directly from organisations including Climate NI, the Education Authority, Mid Ulster District Council, South Eastern Regional College, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service. Speakers outlined their experiences of reporting, the practical actions taken to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate impacts, and the benefits already being realised.

DAERA would like to thank all public bodies for their commitment, collaboration and leadership in addressing climate change. Presentation slides from the event as well as additional materials are available below.
