The third Northern Ireland Climate Change Adaptation Programme (NICCAP3)
Date published:
DAERA has published Northern Ireland’s Third Climate Change Adaptation Programme, NICCAP3, covering the period up to 2029.
NICCAP3 contains over 280 actions from across NI Executive Departments and wider NI stakeholders including from the public and private sectors, eNGOs and Academia.
This level of action recognises the importance of building resilience in Northern Ireland to protect us from the worst impacts of climate change. While we work to reduce our emissions in line with our Carbon Budgets and Net Zero targets, some climate change impacts are already locked in. Warmer, wetter winters and hotter, drier summers, have already brought flooding and heatwaves to Northern Ireland and we have seen first-hand the devastation that severe storms like Éowyn and Amy have brought.
NICCAP3 outlines the actions being taken to build resilience to these and the other climate related risks identified by the UK Committee on Climate Change and fulfils the legal requirement under section 60 of the Climate Change Act 2008 for Northern Ireland Departments to respond to the risks posed by climate change as identified in the third Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA3), laid in Parliament by the UK Government.
