Habitats Regulations
Topics:
Habitats Regulations Reporting is six yearly reporting on our most important habitats and species. It replaces reporting under Article 17 and Article 12 of the Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora (Habitats Directive) and EU Directive on the conservation of wild birds (2009/147/EC) (Birds Directive) respectively. When the UK left the EU, the need to undertake broadly equivalent reporting was transferred into the Conservation (Natural Habitats etc.) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 (known as the Habitat Regulations) through the EU
The requirement is detailed in Regulation 3ZA:
Within six years from exit day, and at least every six years thereafter, the Department shall publish, in such forms as it sees fit, a report on the implementation of the measures taken for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of the Directives, and the achievement of the objectives set out in Article 2 of the Habitats Directive and Articles 2 and 3 of the Wild Birds Directive.
Previous reporting cycles for Northern Ireland were published on the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) website.
