Financial support for students

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) provides financial support to students undertaking full-time Further Education at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE).
Student Finance NI provide funding for students undertaking full-time Higher Education courses at CAFRE.

Further Education awards for CAFRE students

Applications for financial support for students studying a full-time Further Education course at CAFRE will be administered by The Education Authority Further Education awards section, on behalf of DAERA.

To be eligible for a DAERA Further Education award, you must be enrolled on a full-time Further Education course at CAFRE and be ordinarily resident in Northern Ireland prior to the start of your course. For the full terms and conditions of the DAERA FE Awards Scheme, please refer to the Guidance Booklet for 2018/19.

Support available for eligible students

  • income-assessed living expenses grant: living in halls of residence / lodgings (max £2,362), or living in parental home (max £1,659)
  • extra help if you have a disability, have children or adult dependants.

Return your completed application form to The Education Authority giving all the details and documentary evidence required.

The Education Authority will determine whether or not you are eligible to be considered to receive help with living costs.

Higher Education Student Support for CAFRE students

Students enrolling on a full-time or sandwich course of Higher Education at CAFRE may apply for financial support through Student Finance ni.

The package of support available is dependent on whether the student is a new or current student at CAFRE.

You should start thinking about applying for financial help as soon as you have applied for a place on a course. Do not wait until you have a confirmed place on a course before applying - simply quote the course that you think you are most likely to attend. If your course changes after you apply, tell Student Finance ni right away.

  • You can apply for support online or submit a paper application form, both of which you can access on the Student Finance ni website.

EU students

Applications for financial support from EU nationals or the child of an EU national enrolling on a full-time or sandwich course of Higher Education at CAFRE will be administered by the Student Loans Company’s EU Customer Services Team in Darlington.
