The Department has been taking forward work on the development of an education strategy to guide future skills programmes within DARD’s sphere of interest. As part of this, the Department has commissioned research from the Agri-food Biosciences Institute (AfBI) and the Sector Skills Council (LANTRA) and in addition, has undertaken research itself.

Evidence base


A comprehensive research evidence base has been collated to inform development of the department’s future education policy interventions. This evidence includes information on the future demand for, and some of the benefits arising from, education, skills and lifelong learning within the land based, food and rural sectors.
