  • Apply now for the Growers’ Training and Support Pilot Scheme

    Date published: 6 November 2025

Applications are now open for the Growers’ Training and Support Pilot Scheme, which is one of three strands within the new Horticulture Pilot Scheme.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has developed the Pilot Scheme as part of the Sustainable Agriculture Programme to facilitate the specific development needs of the horticultural industry through targeted support for horticulture businesses.

The Growers’ Training and Support Pilot Scheme will provide an opportunity for those who wish to start or develop a new horticulture business or enterprise to take advantage of professional advice to advance their business plans.

Commenting on the Pilot Scheme, Berta Cunha, CAFRE Horticulture Policy Adviser said: “The pilot will focus on the professional development of participants by providing new or diversifying horticulture businesses with professional advice and support which will widen their knowledge and advance their business prospects.”

To be eligible to apply to the Pilot Scheme applicants must have a Level 2 Award in Horticulture (or equivalent or higher). Anyone wishing to apply to the scheme who does not currently hold a Horticulture qualification can attend a course delivered by CAFRE to obtain a Level 2 qualification starting on Wednesday 12November 2025.

Applications and further information can be accessed through CAFRE’s website where updates are regularly published.

Applications for this pilot scheme will close on Monday 1 December 2025. Queries relating to the Horticulture Pilot Scheme can be directed to: kt.admin@daera-ni.gov.uk
