Greenmount Campus recently hosted teachers from schools across Northern Ireland. The one day support event was held for teachers of GCSE Agriculture and Land Use. The event was organised in partnership with the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA).

Edith Finlay, Education Manager for CCEA welcomed the group to the event and said how pleased she was to work alongside Greenmount Campus staff to deliver an excellent support day for teachers. CAFRE Recruitment Manager Kenneth Johnston outlined the programme for the day. The topics covered included the importance of animal welfare in livestock production to the consumer, the use of technology in crop production to reduce costs of production and disease prevention strategies on a livestock farm.

The topics were delivered at the excellent facilities at the Greenmount Dairy Centre in the morning and after lunch there was discussion on examination performance and a Q & A session.

Feedback from teachers following the event was extremely positive. David Morris, Head of Biology at Portadown College, commented that it was: “a unique opportunity to learn about a range of highly relevant subjects and also stated how pleased he had been to meet up with one of his former GCSE Agriculture and Land Use pupils Adam Smyth who is currently a first year student on the Extended Diploma in Agriculture at Greenmount.”
