  • CAFRE to host Milk Quality – Competing in a Global Market Place webinar

    Date published: 2 March 2021

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), in association with the Society of Dairy Technology (SDT) are hosting an online webinar entitled, ‘Milk Quality – Competing in a Global Market Place’ on Tuesday 16 March at 11.00am.

Gary Andrews, CAFRE Food Technologist at the food facilities, Loughry Campus.

This webinar aims to provide an update on the ongoing work to support quality and safety within the supply chain.

Research has shown that, in reputational terms, quality is the single most important attribute of the local Dairy Industry. A well-earned reputation for excellence and quality are key to the confidence and loyalty which consumers have in dairy products.

Global export markets, national regulatory standards and customers are demanding the supply of increasingly higher quality milk. In order to compete on a global scale producers and processors are striving to supply milk and milk products to the highest quality, ensuring legal and safety standards are maintained.

The following topics will be covered by guest speakers:

    • Minimising Chlorate Levels in the Dairy Supply Chain - Dr David Gleeson, Milk Quality Researcher, Teagasc.
    • WANTED: Rapid, Sensitive and Accurate Diagnostic Test to Aid Control of Johne’s disease in Dairy Herds - Professor Irene R. Grant, Institute for Global Food Security and School of Biological Science, Queen’s University Belfast.
    • Antimicrobial Residue and Antimicrobial Resistance Testing, Surveillance and Control in the Dairy Sector - Dr Liberty Sibanda, Randox Food Diagnostic Ltd, UK.

This event is aimed at anyone involved in the production and processing of milk and milk products and will provide information on the innovation and developments in this vital area.

Details on how to join the webinar can be found on the events section of the CAFRE website.
