Co Tyrone focus on lambing event
Date published:
With lambing time fast approaching on sheep farms across the region, the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) has organised four events to help farmers prepare for a successful lambing period.

The local event for famers in the southwest of the province will be kindly hosted by Nigel Kee and his family near Douglas Bridge on Wednesday 29 January at 7:30pm.
Nigel and his family will start lambing their 470 ewe flock in February. The flock is primarily based around Belclare and New Zealand genetics. Nigel successfully manages to achieve a scanning percentage of over 200% and often up to 220%. This notable performance helps boost his flock output and profitability.
In addition to the sheep flock, the Kee family run 40 suckler cows and their progeny, as well as rearing dairy bred beef calves under the ABP Blade Farming model. These calves are reared on the farm with a small number being kept for finishing and the majority going onto finishers throughout the country via ABP.
Given the range of enterprises on the farm, careful planning is crucial to ensure that lambing goes as smoothly as possible. During the event Nigel and local CAFRE Advisors will cover practical topics such as silage management, concentrate supplementation, as well as pre and post lambing organisation to support famers during this busy and critical time of the year.
The ‘Planning for a Successful Lambing’ event will take place on Nigel’s farm at 15 Knockiniller Road, Douglas Bridge, Co Tyrone, BT82 8QW. Pre booking is not required.
